Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
Intrauterine insemination (IUI), a kind of artificial insemination, is a fertility treatment method.
When your ovary produces one or more eggs to be fertilized, cleaned and concentrated sperm is inserted directly in your uterus.
The purpose of this treatment is to increase the quantity of sperm that enter the fallopian tube, increasing the likelihood of conception. IUI effectively gives sperm a “head start,” but the sperm must still reach and fertilize the egg on its own.
IUI has been demonstrated to boost the chances of conception in patients with unexplained infertility due to moderate male factor infertility. It has also been used successfully in combination with ovulation induction to maximize the benefits of both techniques.
